TechnoLite Ezine, Issue #009 More free sound sources
May 28, 2006
Hi

It has been a long month, with very few updates on the site. Hopefully within the next few months, there will be some surprises, a new ebook and a lot of distribution advice.

---------------------

I hope you are enjoying the DJ ebook. The response has been great. There will be some updates to that in the future.

Due to that there was great interest in ripping from older tracks- if you haven’t had your eMusic fix yet…why not :) I have found a great bit of software to help you.

It is a great, fully functional for 2 weeks only, bit of software that can convert your tapes and L.Ps to CD. When you can pick up LPs and tapes now for literally nothing- and not to mention the 12inch records that are out there (DJs take note), then this is something to have.

Also, it cleans the recordings, removing those pesky crackles and pops from the recordings for you. It also has an EQ and a noise reducer for tapes.

It can be downloaded from here: Tape/LP to CD

Please note though. It can be a time consuming process and don't be discouraged if after you convert a song or songs from one of your LP's that it does not sound very good. Try different combinations of using the various filters and equalization to see what works best. But if your records are not in very good condition, it might just be a waste of time.

When you do get the combination right, well you will have a great source of extra samples and sounds.

VSTs that you should not be aware of.

I have noted recently that the VSTs that are on some sites are really, poor, or they are not free.

1. DaHornet. http://liqihsynth.com/catalogue.htm (scroll to the bottom of the page) I downloaded this WASP synth emulator and you need a serial code, from where? I don't know, and no one is telling :)

2. SonicSynth2. Couldn’t get it to work, tried and tried, but to no avail. It has got a cool interface, but seems to crash my hosting program all the time. Why did I get all those problems? Because it is $399…ouch, not really free as advertised on some sites.

3. GTG- JP7A. http://miksybrandt.panicnow.net/Synth_zips/GTG_JP_7A.ZIP In the previous update I am sure that I recommended the GTG- 13.L. On the same site there is this bit of software synth present. Leave it alone. It sounds raspy, probably really hard to code, but sometimes old synths were forgotten for some reason. It has a great 80s style to the interface, but no useful sounds were found. I have seen this ranked highly on some sites…why?

4. Brainslayer Juno6. http://sourceforge.net/projects/juno6/ I really enjoyed the Juno6, it was a great synth, but this VST is poor.

All is not lost thogh in VST land…yay! If you want a really cool softsynth, then Rez, is it. Its sounds are pulsating with super cool ideas, and they are really good. Its great that it is free, and it is a crime that it hasn’t got the recognition that it deserves.

Go to the page below, then press VST at the top then click on REZ. There are other softsynths available, but REZ is just great.

Rez

See you for another instalment.

Happy music making.
